New Member Orientation

Coast Mountain Students’ Union (CMSU) is a separate, non-profit entity operating within the college: we are for students, by students! We operate based on our own policies, budget and governance structure.

As a new student of Coast Mountain College, you are also a new member of the Coast Mountain Students’ Union. You are joining a community of over a thousand students in campuses across the northwest: from Haida Gwaii to Smithers and beyond, now that we have virtual learners from all over the world!

What’s more, you are also joining a provincial alliance of 15 post-secondary institutions across British Columbia. Within this group, the students’ union advocates for important issues that impact students on every level: from local communities to the federal level.

What are the perks?

Your students’ union unites members with a common voice, organizes events and campaigns while providing important services that benefit students.

How can you get involved?

A students’ union needs member participation to continue. This can look like:

  • Volunteering on the Board of Directors
  • Attending events hosted by the Students’ Union and the college
  • Participating in referendums and surveys
  • Providing feedback about services
